There's nothing better than a colorful and happy bouquet of flowers to lift someone's spirits if they in the hospital. Flowers are vibrant, fresh-cut, full of life and beauty and do wonders for brightening up the hospital room and someone's mood. In fact, people who receive flowers are happier than those who receive other gifts, and they remain happier for longer. That's the incredible effect flowers have on us!

There a few things you should know, though, before you choose and send flowers to someone in the hospital. The floral experts at French's florist can help you select the perfect flowers and get them to the right recipient in any hospital. Here are some helpful guidelines for you, as well.

Best Practices for Sending Flowers to Someone in the Hospital

  1. Choose bright and colorful flowers! Vibrantly-colored flowers bring about joy and happiness into a room and the recipient.
  2. Choose flowers that last long and easy to care for. Also, try to have them in a see-through vase so the water level can be monitored for easier care.
  3. Smaller is better than bigger. Large arrangements may interfere with equipment or staff going about their daily routine. A more compact size floral arrangement is better for space reasons and will be easier to take home.
  4. Get flowers that are allergy-free. Hospital staff or other visitors may be allergic. Be on the safe side and choose hypoallergenic flowers like carnations, peonies, hydrangeas, daffodils, or orchids.
  5. Non-lightweight containers are best. Some ceramic or glass vases may be prone to breaking if they get accidentally bumped or pushed onto the floor. Plastic, wicker or metal floral containers are a better option.

Choose a Meaningful Floral Arrangement

Tailor your get-well message to specifically convey a certain feeling by choosing flowers that symbolize a special meaning. Some popular choices are:

  • Asiatic Lily: Symbolizing long life and good fortune, lilies also have bright petals that burst forth from dark leaves in a beautiful contrast of tones.
  • Chrysanthemums: Symbolizing joy, long life, and optimism, chrysanthemums come in an assortment of colorful petals, shapes, and sizes.
  • Daffodils: Symbolizing new beginnings and eternal life, this beautiful star-shaped flower is very cheerful.
  • Heather:  Symbolizing protection and good luck, heather has dark blue bell-shaped petals and is a low-growing flowering plant.
  • Hydrangeas: Symbolizing perseverance, these gorgeous flowers change colors over time and are long-lasting.
  • Iris: Symbolizing good news, the Iris also means rainbow in the Greek language.
  • Pansies: Symboling caring and loving thoughts, these delicate and colorful flowers have four petals that face up and one that faces down.
  • Peonies: Symbolizing healing, good health, and a happy life, peonies are colorful, show-stopping blooms.
  • Yellow Tulips: Symbolizing the sun, hope, and cheerful thoughts, the tulip is much revered classic bulb.
