Frequently asked questions
A vase is more than just something you use to display your flowers, they keep your flowers alive and vibrant by providing them with nutrient-rich water.
On top of this, stylish designer flower vases accentuate the beauty of a bouquet and add an extra dash of quality. They make a statement, saying look at me, while not taking the focus away from the beautiful flowers.
When choosing a vase, the first thing you need to consider is how many flowers are in your bouquet, and therefore how many stems.
Cramming too many flowers into a vase with a narrow neck will make it look cramped, while not enough will make it look sparse. Similarly, you need to consider that flowers with larger heads will take up a lot of room. It’s about choosing the right bouquet for the right vase and depends on several factors including size, shape, and foliage.
Below, we’ll take a look at the shapes of designer vases and what kind of floral arrangements best suit each.
Bottleneck vases
As the name suggests, bottleneck vases have a narrow neck, like that of a bottle. They’re perfect for supporting stems and ensuring flowers are kept upright. They’re best suited for flowers with thin stems, and it’s best not to cram in too many and risk it looking overcrowded. Because they’re often smaller, bottleneck vases are suitable for small tables, mantles, shelves, or window ledges.
Bottleneck vases are great for lilies, magnolias, cherry blossom, catkins, and hydrangeas.
Jug vases
A jug vase provides an arrangement with a rough, rustic, and natural effect. Smaller flowers and plenty of foliage give that just-picked look, and jug vases are also perfect for dried flowers.
Jug vases are great for small flowers and plants.
Cube vases
With so many angles, cube vases are a great alternative to those with curves, and really accentuate big, bold, and colorful flowers such as hydrangeas. Usually, on the shorter side, cube vases are best for flowers with shorter stems.
Cube vases are great for flowers with large heads, including hydrangeas, roses, and succulents.
Rounded vases
Reminiscent of a fishbowl, rounded vases work well for tightly grouped bouquets and flowers that are top-heavy. They also make great terrariums.
Rounded vases are perfect for roses, peonies, and hydrangeas.
Decorative vases
Decorative vases can take pride of place anywhere throughout the home and are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. They’re often unique, striking, and can be just as bold as the bouquet itself.
Decorative vases will pair perfectly with your favorite flower, and both simple and adventurous arrangements fit them well.
Flared vases
A flared vase is the quintessential vase shape, with a wider neck than foot that evokes the shape of the flowers within. They’re a great vase for those unfamiliar or not confident with arranging flowers at home, as they’re suitable for most bouquets.
Flared vases are suitable for most flowers, but are particularly great for roses, tulips, and lilies.
Centerpiece vases
A centerpiece demands the attention of anyone in the room, so a centerpiece vase must be up to the task by being equally eye-catching. A centerpiece vase should be big and bold and able to hold a luscious and memorable bouquet.
Centerpiece vases are suitable for almost any kind of flower, foliage, or even unique objects to make a centerpiece really pop.
Footed vases
A footed vase adds a touch of class and draws attention to itself as a focal point of a flower arrangement. Usually similar in design to a flared vase but raised on a round base, they’re tall and work well as centerpieces.
Footed vases are great for sunflowers, delphiniums, and lilies.
